WORDS FROM OUR DIRECTOR |
As we know and understand what is the HIV and what are its mechanisms of action, we will be in better conditions to control it and that will bring more confidence and tranquility to our lives.
If medicine is our field, it's our professional obligation to be up-to-date in all that's related to this suffering, because even when our decision has been at a time not to take care of people with this illness, it's very likely that events will surpass our intentions and then sooner or later we will have to face AIDS without the possiblitity to avoid it.
If we're people living with HIV/AIDS, we must look into new and fascinating worlds: biology, medicine, genetics, chemistry, sexology and psichology; fields in which we'll have to sink in, some lucky enough to have the company of an informed doctor-friend allowing us to have an interactive relationship; others, on the other hand, will be facing a doctor who won't let us understand his encrypted language; it's time then to find a new partner, because we can't stop, we must be escorted by a doctor who doesn't hold mysteries, by a friend who understands that it's our right to research, ask, find out what it is and the ways of that microorganism that changes and takes away our lives; a doctor conscious of our privilege to fight for the only life we've got and that now is in danger.
That's why in this publication you're holding in your hands, you will find drug names, treatments, studies; not for you to auto-prescribe or to prescribe others, but for you to know what's going on and not when you take these drugs and when you don't, so you can strenghten your interactive relationship with your doctor, and if you're a doctor to awake your interest of keeping yourself up-to-date and to use and transmit this information in benefit of your patients.
You will also find the names of many people that in some way are fighting the virus and of others that have gone because of the disease; names of researchers, doctors, volunteers and victims, all brought up together so you, your family, your friends, your partners and all of us who are part of humanity can live one day in a world without the fear of AIDS.
